Unbelievably cruel and vicious' rapist Australian Dane Foster sent to jail for 8 years

Dane Foster - Savage rapist and psychopath pleaded guilty to multiple disgusting sex crimes in 2013

A FORMER New South Wales man who brutally raped, tortured and held captive a Mackay woman he met online will spend at least the next eight years behind bars.

A spokesman for Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie said the state's chief law maker would review the sentence.

Dane Foster, 34, who sobbed when being sentenced, pleaded guilty in the Brisbane District Court last November to a host of offences including torture, deprivation of liberty, acts with the intent to maim or harm and assault.

He pleaded not guilty to three rape charges but a jury subsequently found him guilty on two of the offences.

Crown Prosecutor Sarah Dennis told the court on Tuesday the woman was held captive over two days in September, 2011, where Foster committed indescribable offences against her.

She said after Foster was arrested and released on bail he went back to NSW and committed similar acts against another young woman and was jailed for a short period before being shipped back to Queensland.

Dane Foster - Australian rapist and predatory sex offender

"His offending against this young woman were indescribably cruel and sinister and designed to leave her with lasting damage and trauma," she said.

"They were totally unprovoked."

APN Newsdesk has chosen not to reveal further offences Foster committed against the woman as not to cause her any further distress.

Defence barrister Michael Byrnes said Foster had been abusing prescription medication at the time.

He submitted four character references to the court from Foster's mother, step-father, aunt and a prison religious worker.

Judge Nicholas Samios said he did not believe Foster had shown any remorse and felt his tears were only a display after realising his fate was about to be determined.

"You were unbelievably cruel and vicious towards this young woman and there is no doubt you deserve to be sent to prison," he said.

"What that poor woman would have experienced would have been absolutely terrifying."

Judge Samios sentenced Foster to eight years behind bars and declared him a serious violent offender which means he must serve at least 80% of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
